About a year ago, I wrote a post all about my night-time skincare routine. My approach has changed a lot since then, as I begin to love my skin and figure out what products work best for me. Let me preface this post by saying that everyone’s skin is different. What works for me, may not work for you. All through middle and high school I battled, and lost the war, with my skin. I had terrible acne, peeling, and dry patchy dark spots. Through trial and error, and many trips to the dermatologist’s office, I feel like I am finally beginning to understand what my skin wants and needs. I am still making slight adjustments to the products I use everyday but these are the ones I find are really working best for me.
First, I start each night by cleansing my face of the day’s makeup. I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup, but I always make sure to clean my skin well before I apply any other products. I use Purpose face cleanser and I wash my face twice; once to remove makeup, oil, and dirt, and a second time to clean deep into my pours. My skin is a combination of oily and dry but I love this cleanser because it is extremely gentle but effective and it doesn’t leave a residue on my skin.
Next, I use three pumps of Osea Atmosphere Protection Cream. I used to just wash my face and go to bed, but I am starting to realize the importance of moisturizing before bed. When I do, I wake up with brighter and tighter looking skin that is moist and hydrated. If you tend to have dryer areas such as under your eyes or around your nose, focus on those sections. I lightly massage the moisturizer into my skin and let dry for 30 seconds.
Then, I use a couple drops of NUXE dry oil. I put two to three drops into my palm and pat it over my entire face, lips, and neck (do not rub in as it disrupts the moisturizer underneath). I love this oil because it is super light, scent-less, and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy. Because it is a “dry” oil it is absorbed into my skin sealing it and leaving it hydrated without being oily.
Lastly, I hydrate my lips too with Glossier’s balm dotcom. I opt for the color-less and flavor-less option while I sleep so that I don’t have to worry about it getting on my sheets or pillow. I wake up with hydrated lips, ready if the day calls for a splash of color.
This routine is also great for flying when I know my skin is going to feel dry and tired. Drinking lots of water and replenishing your body with needed moisture throughout the day and night is crucial to healthy skin. I encourage you to try one or all of these products and see how they work for you.
