On Monday, I woke up frustrated and anxious. I rolled over to see a full to-do list on my nightstand, along with an email I wasn’t too pleased to get. We all have times when we wake up a little defeated, but this is not how I wanted my week to start. I hopped out of bed, threw on my gym clothes and worked out before coming home to pray and read my Bible. It was exactly what I needed to hit reset and make sure my day got off on the right foot. Then I got to thinking, what can I be doing to make sure every day starts off great? Here are a few of my tips for starting the day off right.
Don’t reach for your phone: The biggest change I have made in my life in the past couple weeks is charging my phone away from my bed. This keeps me from staying up on it late into the night and also ensures it is not the first thing I reach for in the morning. I love to start my mornings by reading my bible and praying because it gets me in the right frame of mind remembering to draw close to God throughout my day.
Exercise: This doesn’t need to mean schlepping to the gym at 5am. Working out can be as simple as doing a few lunges and crunches in your bedroom first thing. Getting your heart rate up and your blood flowing right when you wake up is a great way to ensure your day is energized.
Drink water: This one is not easy but I am trying every day to drink a glass of water before my feet hit the floor in the morning. I make sure I have a full glass of water on my nightstand before bed so that when I wake up I can start my day hydrated.
Get a good breakfast: From the time we were young everyone from our teachers to our parents emphasized the importance of a healthy breakfast. Even if you are running out the door in the morning try to grab a yogurt and some fruit, or a piece of toast and an egg. You can also make your breakfast the night before to save time. Eating breakfast ensures that you won’t be hungry, and therefore cranky, come 10am.
A good clean face and a boost of Glossier Super Bounce: Nothing feels better than starting my day with a clean face. If you haven’t already you can read about my daily makeup routine…but even if I plan on spending my whole day at home in my pajama’s and I don’t apply any makeup, I still make sure that one of the first things I do is wash my face and moisturize.
